Zaire's climate is tropical and humid. Temperatures average 77╝F and vary little through the year. Annual rainfall is around 60╨80 inches; mountainous areas are wetter. The equator passes through the north of the country, causing marked regional variations. To its south, well-differentiated wet and dry seasons last from October to May and June to September respectively. North of the equator, a short dry season lasts from December to February; the rest of the year is wet.
